Film

Set in Kenya, 20 Liters is an experiential short documentary that gives you insight into what it’s like living day to day in the Samburu tribe. What it’s like to live on 20 liters of water a day.

Mission

20 Liters is a film meant to bring the viewer into the life of Rantilea and her family, and experience what it is like to live in a remote part of the world without water. We want the viewer feel like they are there, with the family.

Goals

The goal is to tell a story differently from the rest of the films we had seen on this topic. Our goal is to give a unique perspective into life without water. Even more so, we wanted this film to not be affiliated with any one organization, but rather to promote any organization that supports those in need of water. With this as our goal, we plan to submit this film into many festivals, have showings locally, and to share with many of the non-profits already providing water to people. We want this film to be used so widely, it aids in bringing at least 20 liters of clean water to everyone in the world.

Why

There are needs all over the world, but we believe there is a great need taken for granted in Western cultures far beyond many others. Clean, accessible water. Now, while this need doesn’t pertain to one specific area, Sub-Saharan Africa has approximately 345 million without access to clean water. Not only that, but obtaining the only water available can many times take over an hour round trip to retrieve and is so unclean that many die from disease.

Many Sub-Saharan Africans get less than 20 liters of water a day. Compare that to the 600 liters Americans use daily and you can see why we believe water is taken for granted.

There is good news. This issue is not due to a lack of water, but because of poverty, inequality, and government failure. Water is present in these parts of Africa. People just need more access to it. We have seen a solution to this problem that plagues so many Africans. Water wells are constantly being drilled to help and want to show people the impact the wells have for those without nearby access to clean water. We also believe there are many other solutions beyond just wells that we hope to explore in the release of this film.
